Lyrics
(Robert Smith, The Cure)

Yesterday I got so old
I felt like I could die
Yesterday I got so old
It made me want to cry

Go on, go on
Just walk away
Go on, go on
Your choice is made
Go on, go on
And disappear
Go on, go on
Away from here

And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
Inbetween without you
Without you

Yesterday I got so scared
I shivered like a child
Yesterday away from you
It froze me deep inside

Come back, come back
Don't walk away
Come back, come back
Come back today
Come back, come back
What can't you see?
Come back, come back
Come back to me

And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
Inbetween without you

Without you
Without you
Without you

Without you
Without you
Without you
Without you

A homage to the original emo rock, with the OziBattler dad-punk-rock treatment.

Anyone who lived through the 90's will know this song. This is such a great song with a memorable melody, played by a truly original band with one of the best songwriters around.

But ... I think it needs a faster tempo, loud distorted guitars, kill the keyboards, and shorten it up a bit! Other than that, it's perfect.

So, that's what I did.  I actually recorded this over a weekend, after hearing another cover that was virtually the same as the original. To be honest, I don't see the point in that. If you are going to do a cover, do an interpretation, rather than a reproduction. Own it, and give the world something new.

I gotta say, doing the chorus at a faster tempo is damn hard. There's a lot of words stuffed into a short space, and when you make that space faster, there is no room to think, let alone breathe. But, with a lot of practice in the car, I think I managed to get it down.

Just for giggles, after you listen to this version, go put on the original. It will seem to be verrrrry slooow... but still awesome. Thanks Robert, for a great song.
